Time:2019-12-19Popular: Author:

It's winter now, and it's snowing heavily in Beijing. Many people also need to keep the small animals they keep at home warm. Although animals have fur to protect them from the cold, such as chinchillas, the living environment of chinchillas still has certain temperature requirements.

How do chinchillas survive the winter?

The suitable living environment temperature for chinchillas is around 25℃, and the minimum temperature cannot be lower than 8℃. If the temperature in your home continues to be too low, your chinchilla may go into shock.

In winter, the owner can buy it a cotton nest and a windproof cover to keep it warm. Chinchillas need a dry environment, so it is also necessary to keep the nest dry. In addition, if the owner has the conditions at home, he can turn on the air conditioner or heating for the chinchilla to ensure that the ambient temperature is around 25°C, which is the suitable temperature for the chinchilla.

Are chinchillas afraid of the cold in winter?

Chinchillas have very thick hair. Most wild chinchillas live in cold places, so they are not afraid of the cold. However, domestic pet chinchillas have weak cold tolerance. If the room temperature reaches 5℃, chinchillas can live normally. The room temperature should be controlled at at least 10℃, which is most suitable for chinchillas to grow.

Are chinchillas afraid of heat?

Chinchillas are afraid of heat and are only suitable for living in an environment of about 20 degrees. Because there are about 40 to 80 pores in their pores, chinchillas are prone to heat stroke and death in summer.

The mortality rate of chinchillas from heat stroke is very high. Severe heatstroke can cause organ failure in chinchillas and lead to death, but survival is possible if rescued early. Therefore, we must take preventive measures in advance for heatstroke.

In summer, various measures are taken to control the temperature of chinchillas’ living spaces, such as strengthening ventilation. It is best to place chinchillas in an air-conditioned room. If conditions are limited, various temperature control props specially designed for chinchillas can be used. When the temperature is too high, it is also necessary to shorten the time your chinchilla goes out to avoid heatstroke caused by excessive activity.
